Glass Making for Beginners - Four hours with Glassmaker Bliss Hill
Try your hand at the art of glass making - this will be a fascinating experience where you will learn some of the skills required to fashion molten glass into beautiful objects. These classes are designed for beginners but can of course be tailored to your skill level as needed.
After meeting your tutor, Bliss, you will be introduced to the basic techniques of glass making - before progressing on to making some unique items such as a bauble, paperweight and vase or drinking vessel.
As a craft that involves the use of molten glass and related equipment, there are some hazards involved. If instruction is followed you will be very safe - but care should be taken always to minimise the risk of injury to yourself or others. Please listen carefully to any instructions from your tutor.
Please wear suitable clothing with no loose sleeves (NO synthetic fibres), sensible shoes with no heels or open toes - long hair must be tied back.
Refreshments will be supplied, but please feel free to bring your own - as well as any necessary food.
We will have a 15 minute break half way through the session.
Courses are available on Sundays only and we will contact you with availability - please ensure all contact details are given.
During the day you will be taught how to work with the glass and you will get to create some unique pieces of Bristol Blue Glass, to remember your special experience.
Your glass will need to cool down slowly overnight and will be ready for collection after 11.00am the next day. We can also arrange to post it to you. UK postage costs start at £5.50.
This course really is the perfect gift for someone special, something that will stay with them forever – or of course, give it a go yourself!
Just a few things to remember - unfortunately, there are some restrictions, for health and safety reasons and they include not being able to blow glass if you:
- are pregnant
- have lung or heart conditions
If you require any more information - or have any questions, please contact the Bristol Blue Glass team on 0117 972 0818
Please note - due to the nature of glass and the annealing process, it does occasionally occur that your bauble/glass may crack. In this very rare instance, you will be provided with another bauble/piece from the shop.
The blow pipes used are tipped with a brass alloy to prevent transfer of bacteria. This takes advantage of the Oligodynamic effect whereby certain metals are self-sterilising.
