'As part of the New Room/John Wesley's Chapel celebrations of the tercentenary of the birth of Charles Wesley in 2007, a hymn writing challenge has been held. Over 300 entries were received from all over the world and the two winners will each receive a special commemorative plate which has kindly been produced and donated to the New Room by Bristol Blue Glass.
The competition forms part of a programme of events being held at the New Room to celebrate Charles Wesley, the great hymn-writer and co-founder of Methodism, who lived in Bristol for over 20 years. Full details are available on the New Room website www.newroombristol.org.uk
The commemorative plate is one of a number of items being produced by Bristol Blue Glass on behalf of the New Room. The full range of items will be for sale shortly at the New Room shop and Bristol Blue Glass outlets throughout the city.
The New Room is an historic 18th century building in the heart of Broadmead, Bristol and is the oldest Methodist building in the world. It is open from Monday to Saturday 10am to 4pm and most Bank Holidays. Entry is free.'
