These are one-off pieces and will be removed from the site once sold.
Now and again our glass makers sway off the routine and create one off pieces of glass.
Truly one of a kind pieces
During breaks or at the end of the workday, glass blowers were generally allowed to fashion leftover molten glass into items for personal use. They created both utilitarian and decorative pieces that were entirely separate from the limited repertory of production work. These offhand objects, considered examples of folk art in glass, have been called whimsies or end-of-the-day glass, suggesting that they were frivolous and have only incidental significance. Although these terms do sound demeaning, ''Folk art illustrates the basic urge of the human spirit to create objects of beauty.''
Note: these can be engraved with anything that is with-in reason of the products size. If you have any questions or if you have specific artwork you would like engraved then please phone us to discuss your requirements - 0117 9720818
Since
its launch in 1994, the Heritage Open Days programmer has always
featured a diverse range of manufacturing outlets which specially
opened up their premises to the public, giving visitors a unique
insight into traditional and modern manufacturing techniques in
England.
To
mark this year’s September event, Heritage Open Days has chosen to
celebrate some of these manufacturing locations and companies and to
highlight some of the surviving skills and crafts linked to specific
areas of the country - such as Stoke on Trent, Bristol or Sheffield.
Under the banner of “Made in England”, the Civic Trust is teaming up
with five companies to raise awareness of the contribution England-based manufacturers make to the identity and wealth of local communities.
If you value our work and this country’s great manufacturing tradition and quality of design, why not have a look at our shop and support page. You can buy a range of specially branded or designed gifts as long as stocks last.
Each
year Bristol Blue Glass opens up it’s unique factory for Heritage Open
Days giving visitors demonstrations of traditional glass blowing
techniques.
